Mixed Messages is the online presence of Daniel Koh.
It compiles activities, news with a showcase of past and recent projects. AmateurProvokateur is a moniker which I go by and UNIT is a commercial graphic art studio which was previously established as a subsidary of GreenHouse D+C. UNIT has been an independent entity since December 2006. It now serves as an online showcase for creative expression and exploration at the intersection of art, music and visual communication.

AmateurProvokateur & UNIT are now 2 to the power of 1.

Tiger Translate is a platform which enables emerging Asian artists within the fields of art, design, film, photography and music to venture onto the world stage. UNIT was commissioned by TheWorksAsia to develop the art direction & design for the second phase of Tiger Translate. With the original ID from Momorobo, we created artwork templates and brand guidelines for posters, flyers and merchandise to be applied across various events.

UNIT is also one of the ten featured Singapore artists to headline under the AKA (Asian Kinetic Artistes) with 'Merge' as the first theme. The work will be featured across three continents as part of the Tiger Translate 2007 global tour in New York, Berlin and Beijing. More of the event details here.

The AfterHours series is now into its 7th year. A little history: Daryl of MAKE and I conceived this little bugger seven years ago. Daryl's back at it again (after a very long hiatus) so it was obvious and appropriate that he takes on design duties this year.

Disc 1 selected by Daryl contains acoustic/rock gems from Sparklehorse, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Youth Group, Rouge Wave, Death Cab For Cutie...

ARTicle is a showcase of the best creatives around the world. No.15 showcases the work of UK photographer Larry Dunstan.

Larry Dunstan's photography centres on notions of beauty and perceptions of what are stereotypically seen as 'normal'. Of the various pictures, some are photographs of disabled people and some are of able-bodied people that have been made to look as if they may be disabled. By juxtaposing these pictures, Larry questions prejudices by forcing viewers to ask themselves how they view people. Larry also seeks to explore how disabled people are represented in popular culture media such as advertising and fashion. His works mimic fashion photography in his layout, styling and poses. Larry will be showcasing his work in Singapore at the Esplanade Tunnel for the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2007. 18th of January till the 23rd of January.

30 Essential Typefaces for A Lifetime
Curated & Edited by Imin Pao (Pao & Paws) & Joshua Berger (Plazm) and published by Rockport.

There are thousands of typefaces and more being produced monthly. It is a continual challenge for designers to select the exact typeface best suited for a project. In collaboration with the School of St. Martin, Art Center Pasadena, Rhode Island School of Design, Basel, and Yale Design School, 30 Essential Typefaces for a Lifetime defines 30 of the most useful and classic typefaces for all design needs and occasions. Neville Brody imagined “it takes 10 years for someone to master a typeface.” This book contains typefaces for a lifetime; from Akzidenz Grotesk, Franklin Gothic, Minion to Bembo.

Our work for Urban Redevelopment Authority's Annual Report was showcased in this compendium. Typefaces: Adobe Myraid and Emigre's Eidetic Neo.

As continual supporters of Singapore's independent music scene, Cafe Cosmo promises to shed light into those obscure genre-crossing regions that few are brave enough to cross. With a focus on fun as well as substance, a group of friends will go on rotation to bring you the freshest sounds around. These sounds will come from the past, the present and perhaps, tip audiences off to what will come in the future.
